Store Hoggs
NWA J36 held its fortnightly sale of store hoggs with an increased entry of 1368 forward. Trade was not as fast as the previous sale which was one of the best ever seen, but still a very strong trade, especially if you take into consideration the current weather conditions. All hoggs averaged £79.48.
Leading the way this week were Texel hoggs selling to £118 from JA Chapman, Kendal with others from the same home selling to £117.50. Other noted prices for Texel hoggs was £115 from AW Irvine, Ambleside, £114 from BJ Bowness, Kendal, £113 from B Casson, Endmoor and £112.50 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe.
Beltex hoggs peaked at £118 from SE Harrison, Ulverston with other Beltex hoggs to £112 and £110 from MA & JA Winn, Burneside. Charollais hoggs sold to a top of £111 from CC & HM Roberts, Tebay. With plenty of pens of best Continental hoggs readily selling in excess of the £100 mark.
Suffolk hoggs peaked at £103 from W Stamper, Chipping. Continental hoggs out of Herdwicks peaked at £101 from Messrs Hodgson, Rydal. Horned hoggs sold to a top of £85 from MA Grant, Garsdale with Swaledales peaking at £82.50 from R Morris-Eyton, Whicham. Plenty of pens of well meated lambs sold between £70 and £80.
